Field Engineer (Fibre)

Department: Field Nigeria

Reporting Line: Field Team Leader

Job Objective

Install, commission, and maintain access and core fibre routes for self-build and leased
fibre directly and using 3rd party contractors.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install fibre cables on access and core routes according to best practices and standards directly or using 3rd party contractors
  • Commission fibre spans and end to end fibre circuits through use of OTDR and OLTS
  • Verify and capture as built documentation
  • Attend to fibre breakdown and preventative maintenance
  • Support the Network and Data Centre Engineers as required
  • Liaise with internal Project Managers and 3rd party contractors for the execution of designed plans
  • Assist with management & planning of overall fibre network, including auditing and record management
  •  Assist other departments and lead and report on projects as requested by the Program Manager
  • Ensuring network design aligns with B/OSS systems as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma (or equivalent work experience) in a technical field

Minimum Experience & Skills 

  • Requires minimum of 3 year’s technical experience in telecom industry with at least 2 years in fibre
    installation and maintenance role
  • Knowledge of ducts, fibre, build methodologies, splice enclosures, patch panels, OSP and ISP
  • Quality assurance auditing & testing, manage and mitigate network risk register
  • Optical networking experience including OTDR, OLTS, fibre types, testing, splicing and installation
  • Experience in Google Earth, QGIS and OSS systems
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills evidenced by work history and accomplishments
  • Excellent communications and soft skills, including ability to listen to and summarize and concisely share key information with Clients
  •  Must use B/OSS tools effectively to record information accurately and concisely in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment
