Network Architect (Fibre)

Reporting Line: Senior Network Architect

Job Objective

Plan and manage the deployment of the access and core fiber routes on the metro and
backbone network. To be acknowledged as 3rd-level technical competence in network fiber planning and deployment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Planning of new access and core duct and fiber routes, spurs, and PoP sites
  • Liaise with internal Project Managers and 3rd part suppliers that ensure fibre networks are designed and deployed to achieve the best network uptime
  • Plan wayleaves and manage rights of way
  • Audit materials quality to ensure suitability
  •  Keep track of spares stocks drawdown and reorder levels
  • Interact with both internal and external customers & relevant government agencies
  • Assist with management & planning of overall fiber network, including auditing and record management(fibre route plans, as-built documentation)
  • Assist other departments and lead and report on projects as requested by the Program Manager
  •  Prepare RFP technical and strategy documents for procurement of fibre materials
  • Ensuring network design aligns with NetSuite as appropriate

Minimum Qualification

  • Experience & Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in a technical field

Experience & Skills

  • Requires a minimum of 6 year’s technical experience in the telecom industry with at least 2 years in network engineering, network fibre design or equivalent role
  • Knowledge of platforms including Ducts, Fibre, DWDM (10/40/100G), OTN
  •  Knowledge in supporting TX equipment i.e. Alcatel, Adva, Ciena, Infinera, Tejas Networks etc
  • Quality assurance auditing & testing, managing and mitigating network risk register
  • Optical networking experience, including OTDR, optical link budget calculations, fibre types, and testing
  • Experience in Google Earth, OSP Insight, QGIS, and OSS systems
  •  Effective written and verbal communications skills evidenced by work history and accomplishments
  • Excellent communications and soft skills, including ability to listen to and summarize and concisely share key information with Clients
  •  Must use B/OSS tools effectively to record information accurately and concisely in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment
