Job Objective
As a member of the Engineering team, your role will involve planning, designing, recommending technologies and equipment and implementing necessary changes to the WIOCC network within a set budget and timelines. Along with the Engineering team, you will assist in ensuring the network operates at the correct level of quality and performance to enable client service satisfaction, maintain revenue and meet or improve company targets. To be acknowledged as the technical competence relating to the fibre network engineering within the organisation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and design of new access, metro and core duct and fibre routes, spurs and PoP sites entries, MMRs
- Develop Policies, Procedures, Processes, Standards, Specifications and Work Instructions related to fibre engineering design, planning, maintenance and operations
- Liaise with internal Project Managers and 3rd party suppliers that ensure fibre networks are designed and deployed according to design
- Plan, submit, track and manage wayleaves and rights of way
- Initiate, plan, submit, track, manage and implement change requests for network optimisation
- Manage and track the fibre annual budget
- Keep track of material stock, drawdowns and reorder levels
- Interact with both internal and external clients & relevant government agencies
- Management & planning of the overall fibre network, including auditing and record management (fibre route plans, as-built documentation)
- Prepare RFP technical and strategy documents for procurement of fibre materials
- Ensure all documentation is up to date and stored on the designated platforms for easy access and retrieval
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in a technical field
- 8 year’s technical experience in the telecom industry
- 5 years in network fibre planning and design or equivalent role
- Effective written and verbal communication skills evidenced by work history and accomplishments
- Excellent communication and soft skills, including the ability to listen, summarise and concisely share key information with clients or internal stakeholders
- Optical networking experience, including OTDR, optical link budget calculations, fibre types and testing
- Expert in GIS and OSS systems
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Visio
- Basic knowledge of network equipment i.e. Routers, Switches, DWDM, OTN
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment
Experience & Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of the fibre market, including its providers and infrastructure
- Proven track record of proficiently establishing and developing fibre technology competencies within a complex organisation
- Knowledge of ISP planning, scaling and design
- Proficiency in working with database hierarchies and utilising SQL for data management
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize B/OSS (Business/Operations Support Systems) tools to record information accurately and succinctly in a timely fashion
