In support of young telecom graduates, especially in Africa, WIOCC is pleased to announce its sponsorship and participation at the Wave event run by SubOptic on 14th September 2022 at BT Tower in London, UK. The event is aimed at attracting new talents into the global subsea industry.

Nikki Popoola, Director, Sales – West Africa and Claire Wanjiku, Senior Network Architect, both at WIOCC, will be participating in the event through different speaking slots aimed at inspiring a new young generation with interest in joining the subsea industry.

Claire, who started her career as an intern at the WIOCC NOC department and has moved through various positions to become a Senior Network Architect, will be placing Africa on a global stage, demonstrating how technology courses can lead to opportunities for graduates. She will be speaking in two panel discussions: Young Senior Leaders’ Debate and Young Leaders’ Debate , where she will talk about her experiences in the sector, from being graduate trainee to where she is now, why she got into it, and what interests her about the industry.

Nikki who is acknowledged for transforming WIOCC’s capabilities, profile and reach in west Africa, is also set to be a speaker, discussing ‘Subsea, a world of opportunities from high tech to marine to operation to project management.

The future and well-being of oceans and the subsea infrastructure and communication are paramount, and the need to bring new talent into the ever-growing subsea industry is critical.
